You may have noticed that some days your child brings home a white math sheet and other days they do not. The reason for that is on some days the students are doing the work in a notebook which is kept at school. Other days they are doing their work on a dry erase board. We have also been able to start the homework assignments (green sheets) at school so they shouldn't have a lot to do when they reach home.
Our focus in Math is understanding story problems. If you ever wonder about an assignment or don't understand the homework there is something that can help you. Follow this link for help. /resources.html There are many strategies on how to do some of our Math problems and so each day I will show the students some of those. It may be different than the way you learned how to do it, but my goal is to show the students that there are many ways to come up with the same answer. I also told them that if their parents show them a method that works they can use that strategy too. Spelling words are found in the front of the their agenda. This next week we will do the list in Lesson #2. We will also work on the lesson 2 skill. spoke, mile, save, excuse, cone, invite, cube, price, erase, ripe, broke, flame, life, rule You will notice that we have started our Reading series this week. A list of spelling words are included in your child's agenda and are also on the spelling word page. Test is on Friday along with our comprehension test on the story of the week. This week we are on Lesson #1.
SKILLS LESSON 1 The skill for the week is finding subjects and predicates. Every sentence contains two parts, the subject and the predicate. The subject is what the sentence is about and the predicate tells something about the subject. Help your child by working to see the difference between the subject and predicate in sentences. SPELLING LESSON 1 crop, plan, thing, smell, shut, sticky, spent, lunch, pumpkin, clock, gift, class, skip, swing Please remind your child of what your expectations are for them daily. I'm having some issues with a few students that are being disruptive and this takes away from my lessons and time with other students who really need the attention. My hope is that if I call you on the matter that you will find some privileges that can be taken away at home until the situation is solved in the classroom. Thank you for your help and the other parents thank you as well. Greetings!
It's been a busy 4 days so far but I can tell that this class has what it takes to become a great class. In order to keep in touch with you I have created a blog which will be updated each Monday. Please take the time to read it. I should have all of the paperwork from you turned in by Monday. Several people forgot signatures so they were sent back to you. Homework has started and it will be a green sheet of paper located in the pocket at the front of their agenda. I have been fortunate to have parents support me with seeing to it that their child was reading 20-25 minutes each night plus turning in their homework on time. I also tell my students that we will outwork all other classes when we are at school. Because of that we have outstanding results in my classrooms over the years. Here are some results from the past MCA tests of students meeting or exceeding the state standards. Trophy cases are filled with Championship titles that my teams won over the years because I was able to convince kids to work hard. My classroom has become my team now, and I have the same philosophy. STRONGER THAN YESTERDAY! If you have questions you can reach me at 258-1203. Thank you.
