SPELLING LIST:
prediction, previous, remarked, reverse, preorder, recycled, reuse, prebake For six days during the past two weeks your child came into the classroom posed and ready to tackle the MCA test. They all took it very seriously and the results were outstanding! However I'm more impressed with the prior 30 weeks of their effort combined with your support at home. That is where the championship was won. Each night I asked you to be sure they were reading for a minimum of 20 minutes. They did that. I also asked you to be sure they were going over their Math homework sheet and returning it to school the next day. They did that. I can't give you at this time your child's score but I can tell you that our class in Reading had 84% meet or exceed the standard compared to 70% for the rest of our district. In Math we had 96% meet or exceed the standards compared to 73% of the rest of the district! When I was coaching athletics I vowed to outwork all the other coaches in my conference and shared that enthusiasm with my teams asking them to outwork the rest of the conference as well. The result was six Conference Championships in 7 years. The year we didn't win we placed 2nd. Your child is on my team and together we made a pledge on the first day of school that we would do the same. Work harder than others and to take this opportunity we have been given to learn as much as we can when we entered "Mr. Olson's Brain Fitness Center." The last two years we have not had that opportunity to be in a traditional school setting but together, your child, yourself and me... we did use our time wisely. Thank you for your constant support this year. As tears start to well up in my eyes as I type this I just want you to know how proud I am of the effort your child gives daily. We have a sign that hangs above our door as your child enters. It reads : "THROUGH THESE DOORS WALK CHAMPIONS." I think that is a fitting sign in regards to this group of students. From Mr. "Coach" Olson...the teacher of Champions.

We'll be using Math skills and reading a lot about different states on our journey. The other part of it is we'll be choosing campsites along the way and spending money. This should be a great unit for the kids. No Spelling list this week.
