MCA month is here. Yes, that is the big test given to 3rd graders in Reading and Math. Dates to circle on the calendar are April 17,18 for Reading and April 30 and May 1 for Math.
Homework during April might look a little different. Some days they will have the yellow sheets with Homework on one side and Remembering on the other. Other nights they will complete a green sheet with MCA type questions on it. Please make sure they return it in their folders the following day. If there are no sheets to complete then they are to practice their flashcards. Keep an eye out for a permission slip next week for a field trip that will take place in May. It's very helpful for planning if you return it the following day.

The last week of March! Hard to believe but it's finally over. This has seemed like a long month for us. Maybe it was because we didn't have all those storm days. Ha ha..
This Friday will be the 2 hour late start Focus Friday. Behaviors have seemed to improve since report cards went home. Please review with your child often your expectations for them while they attend class. We have some field trips coming up later this year and if children are not following the PATH expectations I don't feel they should get to attend. New Visitor Management System at PV Our school district continues to increase safety and security procedures and protocols in school buildings throughout the district. In support of this, PV will be using a visitor management system called SafeVisitor. If you plan to visit PV, please know that we will follow the procedures listed below. To expedite the process, please remember to bring a driver’s license or government/state issued identification card. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this new procedure to help keep our schools safe. The new process will begin on Wednesday, March 27th. 1. Provide your Driver’s License or ID 2. The license/ID will be scanned 3.. The license/ID will be checked against a background database 4. The license/ID will be checked against the district/building exclusion list 5. A photo will be taken of you 6. A Visitor Badge will be printed 7. You’ll be logged as “in the building” 8. When you leave, check out with the attendant 9. Return your badge 10. You’ll be logged as “out of the building” Report cards will be sent home in an envelope. Please sign the back and return it the following day. I'm stapling it in their agenda so it should make it easier for it to come back.
Go over the report card with your child and ask them what goals they can set for themselves for the last trimester. If your child is not reading for at least 20-30 minutes a night you might want to have them start doing that. Many students who I talk with tell me they are doing double that each day. It really shows in all areas of their work. Math continues with fractions and measurement. Measure your child's bedroom and find the area and also measure the perimeter of your other spaces in your house. Use feet as the unit of measure. Well it's here! The last trimester of the year. Report cards will come out in another week. The last trimester will be filled with a lot of activities and great learning opportunities.
Please help your child by making sure they are keeping up with their homework in math and studying their spelling words early in the week. Math focus will be on area and perimeter. We'll also revisit fractions again this unit. |
