Lesson 20 Spelling and Skill
Just a reminder that we will have a 2 hour late start on Friday, Feb. 26. We've gone through one week of the MCA Math homework and we've had some good results. Continue to check over the sheet before your child returns it to school the next week. We're also doing a great job of starting the Math homework in school prior to leaving. This again will give your child a good opportunity to read more at home. SPELLING LIST #19 Skill #19
It was so much fun seeing you all last week and sharing the progress of your child. Together we are a part of winning team that have the common goal of helping your child succeed. After discussing your child I am even more convinced that together we will make a difference in their lives. We've got the teamwork to make the dream work! I know I've shared this story with you before but I think it's worth repeating. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hazitrxzhPk Lessons from Geese 'Individual empowerment results from quality honking' Lessons from Geese provides a perfect example of the importance of team work and how it can have a profound and powerful effect on any form of personal or business endeavor . When we use these five principles in our personal and business life it will help us to foster and encourage a level of passion and energy in ourselves, as well as those who are our friends, associates or team members. It is essential to remember that teamwork happens inside and outside of business life when it is continually nurtured and encouraged. Lesson 1 - The Importance of Achieving Goals As each goose flaps its wings it creates an UPLIFT for the birds that follow. By flying in a 'V' formation the whole flock adds 71 percent extra to the flying range. Outcome When we have a sense of community and focus, we create trust and can help each other to achieve our goals. Lesson 2 - The Importance of Team Work When a goose falls out of formation it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of flying alone. It quickly moves back to take advantage of the lifting power of the birds in front. Outcome If we had as much sense as geese we would stay in formation with those headed where we want to go. We are willing to accept their help and give our help to others. Lesson 3 - The Importance of Sharing When a goose tires of flying up front it drops back into formation and another goose flies to the point position. Outcome It pays to take turns doing the hard tasks. We should respect and protect each other's unique arrangement of skills, capabilities, talents and resources. Lesson 4 - The Importance of Empathy and Understanding When a goose gets sick, two geese drop out of formation and follow it down to the ground to help and protect it. Outcome If we have as much sense as geese we will stand by each other in difficult times, as well as when we are strong. Lesson 5 - The Importance of Encouragement Geese flying in formation 'HONK' to encourage those up front to keep up with their speed. Outcome We need to make sure our honking is encouraging. In groups and teams where there is encouragement, production is much greater. 'Individual empowerment results from quality honking' Author Unknown Lesson 18 Spelling list and Skills for the week. This week spelling list is from Lesson 17 along with the skill of the week.
In your child's agenda is some information on the hard cover book that your child has written. In order to get the free copy you just need to sign the form and put 0 on the number of extra copies you want. Place the signed paper in the envelope but do not seal it. Return it to school the next day. If you do want an extra copy then you need to pay for it. The majority of the students in the past never order an extra copy. A few weeks ago we read a story about two girls who didn't care for the meal that their mother had made them. I suggested to our students that they come up with a meal that they would like to help cook at home. It might be fun to have your child help plan a meal and let them help with the cooking one night this week. Next week is our Parent Teacher Conferences. Each conference is for 20 minutes so please be on time as all of our nights are completely booked. On Thursday, Feb. 11th your child can bring Valentines and their own box that they have made at home to school. We'll have a small party on Thursday afternoon. |
