It's hard to believe that it's the last couple of days of September. As I told the students this morning that when we are done with one month of school we can not go back and wish we had done more reading or listened better in class.
We keep track on a number line in our room and today was day # 15. We also use the phrase, "Don't count the days...make the days count." I think this group is slowly realizing the differences between 2nd and 3rd grade. For homework tonight they are to practice their multiplication facts of 2. They wrote them down in their agenda. Try to quiz them on these facts this week. I also have flashcards that are in their agenda. Be sure they are kept in their agenda and returned each day. Also please be sure you are signing the agenda each evening. This information is for you to be informed of what is going on in our classroom. Student photos will be taken next week. Many of the students are going on think central.com . This is a great website that has our Reading and Math book on it. If your child wants to read or listen to this week's story they can do so. They are tested each Thursday or Friday on that story. I have found that those that listen and read it at home remember it better than those that don't. When logging in use your child's log in name and password. Find the Journeys link and go from there. I have detailed directions under the resources tab on this site. Parent /Teacher Conferences are coming soon. I will send home a reminder slip of the time you signed up for at Open House. Please return it the following day. I'm looking forward to sharing more about your little Champion! *LESSON #3 SPELLING LIST, SKILLS LESSON #3 found on Resource page.

Today was a great day at school and I tried to call many of you to let you know it, but I was only able to speak to two people. The rest were answering machines or I wasn't able to even leave a message. When I see you in October at our Parent Teacher Conferences I'll be letting you know how much I appreciate having your child in my classroom.
This week, Spelling list Lesson #2 and the skill of the week is also #2. Remember these items are found at the top of this screen under the SPELLING WORDS and SKILLS tab. Ice cream social is Thursday night at PV. Two hour late start on Friday. Students can arrive at 9:20 a.m. It's also Spirit Day so wear your green and gold! I have been so impressed with this class and their parents. In four nights of sending Math homework home, ( 112 sheets of paper for the team) all but one came back on time. That is impressive but also expected. I can tell this group of parents are taking an active roll in their child's education.
Speaking of Math homework. When your child finishes it each night I'd like you to check it over to make sure they did it correctly. If they miss one please have them do it over. Once it's done they should put it back in their folder and bring it back the following day with their agenda. Book check out day is on Day #3. Spelling list for this week can be found on the SPELLING WORD page and our list is List #1. We will test on Friday for our Spelling test. They will also test on the skill of the week on Thursdays. This week the concept is subject/predicates. On Friday the students will take a comprehension test on our first story of the year, "A fine fine school." If you want to have your child practice reading the story of the week go to the RESOURCE page and find the link to THINKCENTRAL.COM . There are directions on the page letting you know how to navigate on that website. It's been a good 5 days but I know the rest will be even better. A good start is always important and I feel we have started well but improvements can be made along our journey. Mr. Olson....The teacher of Champions! Welcome to my blog. Each week this will be updated with important information and I hope you find this useful in learning more about what is going on in your child's classroom. We're off to a good start and I think this group has a lot of potential. I've already told them my plan is to out work the rest of the staff at PV and hope that they will work harder than any other classroom in the building.
We have started homework tonight. PLEASE be sure they complete it and return it in their agenda the following morning. It is so important to establish a routine which they will use all year long. Reading at home each evening for 25-30 minutes will be included daily in their agenda. The yellow Math homework/remembering sheet will also start tonight and will come home nearly the whole school year. There are two sides and we try to start it in school. I would like you to check it over after your child has completed the assignment. The paper goes along with the lesson that was taught in school that day. If you spot an error, please have them correct it. Just a reminder if your child's after school plans change please send a note and remind your child to give it to me. Don't write in their agenda a note to me as I might not spot it. If you have any questions please give me a call at 258-1203. Thanks for sharing your child with me for the day and the school year! |
