As I type this I'm hopeful that on Monday we'll be in our new classroom. The space will be still small but the environment more welcoming than the past room. I really had thought we would have moved sooner but the students and I really accepted the small space we were given and some great lessons were taught daily.
I'm excited for our new room and the opportunities to work with small groups again. NEWS FLASH: Our room is not ready yet. Stay tuned for more details as we get them. Some very important information: PLEASE DO NOT SEND A WATER BOTTLE WITH YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL... We have drinking fountains in the hallway. LARGE CLOTH SHOPPING BAG....This is a great place to store your child's snow pants, gloves, and hat. Colder Weather Please send jackets, hats and gloves with your students. Recess gets very cold for students who are not dressed appropriately. REMINDER: No school on November 1
Students can bring their own treat for themselves as we have a end of the month reward time at the end of our day on Thursday. Day # 37 and our 9th week of school! Where has the time gone? Let's continue to keep up the reading minutes at home and also confirm that homework is done. I shared a math problem with your child that involved geese and the formation they fly in while they are moving. As a class we're trying to be like the geese giving encouragement and helping one another. I'm really liking this team of students. Together we are starting to really realize what it takes to be working together and helping one another with our actions. Please take a few minutes and watch the video which I showed your child and talk about it with them. Cut and paste in a new window. www.youtube.com/watch?v=hazitrxzhPk 0 Comments It was wonderful to meet you all the last week at our Parent Teacher Conferences. Together we make a great team that has made a commitment to making sure your child has a successful year.
I was really wishing we could have been in our new classroom for our meeting. I've always had so many compliments on the comfortable and relaxing atmosphere in my classroom. This year was not the case but very soon I'd like to invite you back to see the new temporary classrooms that we'll be using. Just a reminder of what we talked about . Evening Routine -Check over Math homework. If a problem is wrong have them rework it. -Remind your child to put it in their Gold folder in the "Return to School side" -Have your child read for 20-30 minutes each evening. -Ask them questions about the book they are reading. Have them make predictions about what might happen next and have them explain why they made that prediction. -Check this website each week to see updated information. It should always be updated by the end of school on Monday. Starting on Monday your child will be coming home with a list of words in his/her agenda. This list is useful as it tells you what our Word Study Pattern is for the week. Here is what our Word Study Week will look like.
Monday: Introduce Word Study pattern. Write words in agenda. Tuesday: Work on Word Study Pattern Wednesday: Work on Fluency with Word Study Pattern. Reading a passage and identifying words within the pattern. Thursday: Sort Words with our Pattern. Friday: Word Study Assessment. Students will be tested on the words in their agenda. It would be great for your child to look at the words in his/her agenda a couple of times a week to practice, sort, and read. This can be used as reading minutes:) Please reach out if you have any questions!! Have a great day! Val Martin PICTURE RETAKE DAY IS OCTOBER 22. BRING BACK UNWANTED PACKAGE IF YOU ORDERED THEM. We are officially half way done with the first trimester! Where did the time go. We have a saying in our room, "Don't count the days, but make the days count. Parent Teacher Conferences will be held Monday and Tuesday after school from 3:30-7:30 pm and again on Wednesday 7:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Classes will not be in session on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. It might be a good idea to spend time with the flashcards on those days. Our next unit in Math will include even more multiplication and division problems. Many of the students are not practicing these facts, and I'm concerned for them. The beauty of learning these facts is that once you have them mastered you never have to learn them again. TIME CAN NOT BE PURCHASED, MARKETED OR SAVED, IT CAN ONLY BE SPENT. THE SECRET THEN IS TO SPEND IT WISELY. The weather is getting colder. Many students were very cold at recess last week. It might be a good idea to find the warmer jackets soon.
Parent Teacher Conferences will be held next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Please remember to be on time as your time starts at exactly the time you signed up for and has to be done in 20 minutes. If we need more time we can continue it at another time. I look forward to seeing you and sharing the progress of your child. Flashcards....keep practicing them. Today they received their 9's. The gold folder should be emptied each night and the "keep at home" side of it with papers that have been looked at can stay at home. |
