Thank you for signing up for your Parent Teacher Conferences. They will be held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday October 15,16,17. Directions for signing up are above.
Your child have been bringing home sets of flashcards. Please see to it that they practice them each evening. Mrs. Martin is teaching your child reading and spelling this year. Her website has some great information and you might want to check it out weekly as well as mine. Miss Young is teaching the Science/Social Studies and Writing. mrsmartinnews.blogspot.com/ The issue of talking during work time is still present. If you get a note or a call from me please remind your child that teaching can't occur when there is disruption in the classroom. It makes my job that much tougher to be trying to present a lesson and also be watching to see who is causing others not to learn. Thank you. We
LATE START ON FRIDAY SEPT. 28. SCHOOL BEGINS AT 9:20 A.M. It truly feels like just yesterday I was standing at the door and saying, "Welcome to third grade." Since then we have had nine days of school. I really feel the transition is going smoothly and the majority of the students are realizing that third grade is a totally different experience than being in the lower elementary scene.
Last week we opened up the I pads and I was impressed with the knowledge the students already had when using them. We have lots of learning yet to be done on how to use them, but it was a good start. Math homework sheets have been going great. Only a few students are having an issue of remembering to bring them back the following day. We are finding a few minutes during our day where we can start them and so if you see that the sheet is completed on both sides when they reach home, I'd like you to check it over . If they have an incorrect answer have them do that one over again. Nice job parents on the communication with notes and phone calls. Another good report is that the excessive talking has improved. Thank you for letting your child know what you expect when they arrive at PV each day. PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCE SIGN UP is on Skyward. The directions were given to you at Open House. Only 14 of the 28 parents have signed up. I'm guessing it's the same 14 who read the blog. Picture Day is September 18. Well here we go! Another week and this week we will be in our full rotation of switching for an extended period of time with Science and also Reading. Miss Young will teach the Science/Social Writing and Mrs. Martin will teach the Reading.
Each evening hopefully a routine is being established. My suggestion is that you read their Agenda first and then start the Homework/Remembering yellow Math worksheet. We will attempt to start it in school but our goal is for you to finish it and return it to school the following day in the Gold Folder. Everything from the Math homework sheet was taught that day in school. There may be times when I will ask students to practice telling time, work on their multiplication flashcards or counting money. There are no worksheets for this but rather a time for the two of you to sit down and practice some of these skills together. I will share many different ways to do Math problems and it might not be the exact way you have learned how to do it. I told the students it's ok to learn different ways to do a problem just as long as the answer is correct. Here is a link to Mrs. Martin's blog. She is your child's Reading teacher. www.mrsmartinnews.blogspot.com It was so nice to meet you all at open house. As a former coach I got a good sense that I'm working with a winning team of parents and students again this year.
Also thank you for those that spoke to your child about the amount of extra talking that was happening on the first day of school. Your child will be bringing home a gold folder each evening with a Math 'Homework' and 'Remembering' on the reverse side nearly every single night. This will begin on Sept.10. Please help your child establish a routine where they sit down and work on it. You check it over, and then they put it in the backpack that evening. They will start the paper in school and could be finished with it but I'd still like you to look it over. Reading for at least 20 minutes each evening is highly suggested. They will also bring home an 'Agenda.' It will include their Spelling words and a list of any other assignments. Free breakfast is offered again at school. Your child can also bring a small snack daily if they choose. We'll be taking a 5 minute break daily for a brief snack. Our lunch time is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Many students take the free breakfast item and use it for their snack at snack time since many had just finished breakfast at home. My personal goal this year is to eat a piece of fruit during the snack time. If you have a child that has a schedule that changes often for their after school please send a paper note. One of the most frustrating part of my job is having a child come up to me minutes before dismissal and say they "think" they are suppose to go home on the bus when nearly every other day they are at Kid Stop. I must have a note from you or a phone call to change their after school plan. If you forget to send one DO NOT email me but rather call. 320-258-1203. I work very hard during the day and there are times when I do not sit down to check email until the school day is over. You picked up your child's paperwork on open house night and it was . due on Tuesday. Sign up for a PT Conference as well. The information was included in your packet from Open House. I will be teaching your child in Math. Mrs. Martin will be their Reading teacher and Miss Young will be teaching the Science/Social Studies and Writing. Please check out their websites as well. I'm really looking forward to this school year. If questions come up, please call or email me first. Thank you and let the learning begin! "STRONGER THAN YESTERDAY" |
