March....wow can you believe the end of this week it will be March? Where has the time gone? With all the storm days we continue to push on in Math.
We are currently continuing with fractions and also measuring to the nearest 1/4 inch. This current chapter also has a section on telling time before and after the hour. If you have an analog clock at home ask your child what time it is. Then ask them to tell you what time will it be in 15 minutes. This would be a great teachable moment when cooking. Put something in the oven, note the time and also how many minutes it takes to bake it. Have your child tell you what time will it be when the time is up. If they are wrong you will either have a burnt dinner or an under done meal. Last week I was completely surprised when Radio station 96.7 and Mix 94.9 walked into my classroom. One of my student's mother, Brenda Duffy had nominated me for an award which I was completely humbled by. I have had the pleasure of teaching two of her children and receiving this award was truly an honor.
I am truly blessed by having parents like Brenda and you on my team. I have been often asked why students in my classroom achieve so much during a school year. The reasons I give are simple, "My students work harder than others, and I have parents who truly care about their child and are part of the team working towards the same goal as their teacher. When I was coaching high school sports I realized very quickly that if you don't have everyone working together you're not going to be very successful. I'm very happy that I am getting to teach your child and after Parent Teacher Conferences last week know that together we will help your child reach their full potential this year. Follow this link: http://river967.com/brad-olson-is-our-teacher-of-the-week/ Wow! quite the weather we've had lately. I'm hoping that is all in the past and we can forge on into more lessons this month. January is a blur with the days off from the fire and the storm.
Reminder that Parent Teacher Conferences are next week. Thank you for signing up. Our classroom is across from the office in the YELLOW POD. Our room is Y2. We are currently doing a unit on fractions in Math class. So many opportunities exists with working on these at home. Slicing up food and asking your child what fraction they see would be a great idea. We'll continue with recording our Reading Minutes but instead you can write them down in the agenda. Your child can verbally tell you about the story they read each evening. |
