BRING A SACK LUNCH ON FRIDAY. BRING ROLLER BLADES for field trip.
There is no spelling list or a grammar skill for this week. The week will be spent reviewing concepts taught throughout the entire year instead. I was really happy to get the official "team" results of our MAPS testing for the year. This class really excelled . I still remember telling this group last September that after our first round of scores that they had the potential as a class to really improve if they worked hard. They listened to my advice and the results are very exciting. I am sending home their results today along with an article about a former team that I coached. This class reminded me of a team that I coached back in 1996. They had the potential to be a great team but needed a lot of guidances and direction to stay focused for the entire season. My students have bought into a system where if you listen and work hard, the results will be favorable providing you put forth some effort. We also talked a lot this year on "Staying on the Path." PATH means, P= Personal Best, A=Accountable, T=Teamwork, H=Honest . My hopes is that these students will remember what they learned not only from the textbooks but also from a conversation that we had this year about the choices they make. Class Avg. READING Class Avg. MATH SEPT. 186 DEC.198 MAY 203.7 SEPT.190 DEC.198 MAY 211.3 Typical growth is about 6 points for the year. This group is not your typical class as they improved 17.7 in Reading and 21.3 in Math! Thank you for your partnership in helping your child each evening on their reading and their math. My advice for the future is to keep an active role in your child's education. They have established a habit of doing homework now and the homework time will only get longer as they grow older. The future looks bright for these students and it was my pleasure to be on the Path with them for one year. Best of luck in the future and keep being an active parent. That young person will one day be taking care of you.

GRAMMAR LESSON 30 The skill for the week is correct pronouns. Help your child with this concept by working on when to use ‘I’ and when to use ‘me’ in sentences.
SPELLING LIST LESSON 30 below, about, belong, around, again, alone, because, above, between, alive, behind, begin, along, before FIELD DAY 8:40 a.m. Thursday, May 22nd. It was so much fun seeing most of you last week during the Young Author's Party. Your child really did a nice of job of writing and illustrating their book. It was also exciting to share with you the results of our MCA testing. This group of students really made the commitment to work hard this year and the results are proof of what happens when you work harder than others. The other commitment came from you with your willingness to be sure they were reading each evening and also doing and returning their homework. I mentioned that the greatest investment you could make now is in your child. What kind of opportunities would you like for them as they get older? Our choices we make today will determine what our tomorrow will look like. Right now I believe all of my students are on the correct path to success. Our class results will be posted at a later date on the MAPS test as some are still testing. The results looked good and I'll send you a paper copy of your child's progress this week. GRAMMAR: LESSON 29 The skill for this week is possessive pronouns. Possessive pronouns take the place of possessive nouns in a sentence. An example of how to help your child is to come up with sentences with possessive nouns and change those nouns into pronouns. SPELLING WORDS LESSON 29 apple, river, little,October, ladder, summer, purple, later,November, giggle, uncle, winter, center, double Extra, Extra read all about it! MCA are finished and our class did an outstanding job! In Math as a class we had 96% meet or exceed the standard compared to the District average of 83%. In Reading we also did well having 73% meet or exceed the standard compared to the District average of 65 %. This is the third straight year my students have done this and I'm thankful for parents that require their children to do their homework and to read each evening. You will get the results later this summer on your child's performance. MATH OLSON'S CLASS= 96% SAUK RAPIDS-RICE DISTRICT 3RD GRADERS =83% READING OLSON'S 73% SAUK RAPIDS-RICE DISTRICT 3RD GRADERS =65% This is a busy week. On Wednesday shortly after 1:00 p.m. we're inviting you to the classroom to listen to your child read their hardcover book which they have worked so hard to write. During the morning they will get to meet a real author and take part in different writing lessons during the day. If you want to take your child home with you after the presentation be sure to let me know. On Thursday we HAVE to have everyone here by 7:30 a.m. The bus for the field trip will leave shortly after that and it will not wait for tardy students. Please remember to send along a sack lunch with your child and please, no glass containers. We should be back close to between 2:45 p.m.-3:00 p.m in the front of the school. Please meet your child by the flagpole if they are getting picked up. If they attend Kid Stop then follow your normal routine. GRAMMAR LESSON 28 The skill for the week is continuing to use commas in sentences. Commas are also used in sentences to separate words in a series or list and after introductory words. Continue to help your child see the different ways commas are used in a sentence by looking for them while reading.

On Friday, May 9th at 8:40 a.m. we will hold our Field Day for the students. If you want to come and watch we'll be on the playground fields at that time. One more reminder is that your child will receive their hardcover book at our Author's Party next Wednesday, May 14th at 1:15 p.m. Please arrive a few minutes before that and report to our classroom. |
