REMINDER: 2 HOUR LATE START ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1.
BRING WARM WINTER ITEMS FOR RECESS . We've spent nearly 2 weeks in our new room, Y2 located in the Yellow Pod next door to several kindergarten rooms. We love our new neighbors and also the bathroom and extra space we have. Of course we miss the old room, with the comfortable atmosphere along with the views out of the window of the early morning sunrises. Many mornings the students and I would gather as the day was beginning and marvel at the sky as if it was a tapestry being painted by a giant brush. The third grade staff and students have received a lot of donations of school supplies, boots, hats, gloves and snow pants that were lost in the fire. I believe we have what we need to finish the school year strong. Slowly I'm adding items back to my room. Just today our student desks arrived. The next day our i pads returned with brand new cases. I'm still without my desk along with my files and personal items but am reflecting on how happy that I still have my 28 students. On the morning just after the fire I walked up to my room and stood in a dark, cold silent room. The smell of smoke was strong and trying to decide what I should take back to my room was a daunting task. I gathered a few items and one personal item.It was a letter that a student wrote to me 2 years ago. I have it in a frame and it's one of my greatest treasures. I don't know what I'll get back or when that will happen. My room will look very different for a while, but the lessons I teach will still be full of passion and energy. That is something that wasn't lost in the fire.

The St. Cloud Times did a great story on the recent fire. Check it out at sctimes.com . This is almost the first time I've been able to sit down in the last few days and get on a computer. By now you're aware of the fire and our classroom move.
We've settled into a much larger space with bright white walls and our new space even has its own bathroom! It's going to take a little while to get ourselves organized but it will happen. I'm very proud of this group for how they are handling the situation. Lots of emotions are being felt by all, but I'm so thankful this fire did not happen when the students were at school. Leaving behind 34 years of stuff for me has been difficult. I'm still hopeful that the smoke damage wasn't too bad . No news yet so there is still hope. I have a sign above my door to my classroom that reads, "TOUGH TIMES NEVER LAST , BUT TOUGH PEOPLE DO." We'll press on and we'll adjust and learning will still take place. Thank you all for the support you have shown. I'll see you in Feb. at PT Conferences. Our big testing dates have past and I am encouraged by the results. There was improvement by the students. The results were shared with your child and you will receive them at the Parent Teacher Conferences in February.
If you haven't signed up yet please do so. So far 18 of the 27 parents have signed up for a time. PLEASE check out the following link to see a lesson on rounding numbers. drive.google.com/file/d/1W1ZCggAFws7SaLdOHbY-zkvs3mHudn0Q/view?usp=sharing
This week on Tuesday and Wednesday your child will be taking a test in Reading and Math. This type of test was given during the first weeks of school and the results were shared with you at PT Conferences last October. I'm excited to see the growth and will share with you the results at our February PT Conferences. If you haven't signed up yet for a conference I'd do so soon. The best slots are filling up fast. |
