Reminder that there is no school on Friday. Teachers will be working at an inservice meeting.
Wow!... There are only 60 days left of school as of Monday. We are right on pace here with our Math lessons, and I'm thankful that the students are taking the skills they are learning home with them. At home many of the students have reported that they are active in the kitchen helping with the preparing of the meal and using their telling time skills and also helping cutting food into fraction units. Thank you again for helping them learn more on these concepts. At Parent Teacher Conferences I shared with you that if your child is not on the PATH and following the expectations they could risk loosing a field trip later on this year. Please remind your child of that consequence and how frustrating that could be if they miss this opportunity. Music Concert Date is March 16. Please have your child to the classroom by 6:15 pm with the concert starting at 6:30 pm.

In Math for this week we will be focusing on measuring items to the nearest 1/4 of an inch. If you have an opportunity at home to use a ruler and measure a variety of items that would help them practice the concept. We will review telling time again with an analog clock. Be sure to have them tell you what time it is during the afternoon or evening.
Something else you can do is when you put something in the oven is to let your child know how long the item will cook. Have them determine what time the item should be removed from the oven based on the time you put it in. Example: It's 5:10 pm on the clock and the hot dish I'm putting in the oven will be done in 30 minutes. What time should I take it out? Showing your child real world problems helps them see that it's important to learn these concepts. No school Monday or Tuesday of this week.
It was so nice to meet you all last week at conferences. Together we make a great team with your child being the one who will benefit from our working together. This chapter in Math has the focus of fractions. I've been hearing from many of the students how their parents are showing them examples at home the many fractions that are present in our world. Making a real connection to a Math concept is important so they child will see the value in learning the concept. Way to go Parents! Have you shown your child a measuring cup yet? Why not get some help in the kitchen next time you're baking with them. Just a reminder that Parent Teacher Conferences are being held this week, Monday, Wednesday 3:30 pm-7:30 pm. Friday 7:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.
.We will begin at 3:30 pm tonight with each conference that you signed up for lasting 20 minutes each, Please be on time as I am booked solid for 4 straight hours. If we need more time we'll have to continue our conversation at another time. We will celebrate Valentine's Day on Thursday. Your child was provided with a list of students that are taking part in the party. They can bring their cards and or candy on Wednesday or Thursday. We'll make a container in school or one can be made at home if you like to house the cards. No School on Friday, Feb.15 or Monday Feb.18 and Tuesday Feb. 19. We have started fractions as our current Math lessons. Please help your child with some extra help at home by showing them examples of fractions. For example: I just cut the pizza into 8 slices. I ate one slice. What fraction is that? Answer: 1/8. One out of eight. I HOMEWORK/REMEMBERING PAGE:Starting on Monday your child will be bringing home a gold colored sheet. We will do half of it in school and the rest is homework. They have plenty of time in class to complete nearly all of it. Be sure to send it back in their folder the following day. This replaces the pink Math sheets.
I can tell it's the middle portion of the school year. I eluded to the dangers of coasting or just doing enough a few weeks ago. I've noticed a few students who are taking on that attitude. I am making an effort to change up my lessons daily so it doesn't feel so much like the same thing. In just one week we'll get to visit about the progress of your child at the PT Conferences. Please remember to be looking over the pink Math sheet that is sent home nearly every night. This way you can see what they are working on in class. Next week we will have a party to celebrate Valentine's Day on Thursday. Students can share valentines with their classmates. They can also make a container to put them in for the party. If they don't have one we will decorate a large white bag in school.
