In your child's bag which you will pick includes some very important items they will need for the rest of November and December and part of January. I also included Math sheets that could get them through most of January. ALL items must be returned when the students return except for the finished homework sheets which should be recycled daily.
There is a "WHAT'S IN THE BAG" when you get it. The student's white binder would be a fantastic place to store everything. WHAT’S IN THE BAG

Happy Thanksgiving! During this week I'm asking you to share at least 2 things you are thankful with your child each day. Why not take the whole week rather than one day to reflect on this thought. I know when I look at the 21 smiling faces each day I'm feeling truly blessed to be their teacher. Believe me, if we were having issues I would be letting you know. Please remind your child of their schedule and to be on time to class. Ready as if they were walking into the classroom. No pets, supplies ready and be ready to learn. The ZOOM room is open 5 minutes before the scheduled class.
This week in Reading we will be reading more stories related to the first Thanksgiving. It truly is an amazing story and if you have never really researched it I'd highly recommend it. It seems like most books share so little about the perseverance that the Pilgrims truly faced during their early years in America. The definition of perseverance is 'steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty.' When I read that definition it seems like that is what we are having to encounter every day. Let's persevere together and when this is all done we can say that we did this together. Thank you again for your support. From Mr. Olson....The Teacher of Champions The d Our first days of distance learning went better than it did last September. Please remember to try and choose a quiet place in the home where there will not be background noise or a younger sibling that might cause noise when your child is in Zoom sessions.
On the first day of class last week I had 3 students who were causing a distraction to others and myself so I turned off their camera. If that happens again I'm asking the students to tell you that they were causing a distraction rather than you getting a phone call from me. I'm trusting that they will be honest and let you know. The white binder has everything they need for class and the schedule has your child getting the majority of their assignments done before noon. I find that to be a very productive time for them. At the end of the day please check in with your child and ask them if they completed everything they were assigned that day. Any assignments not finished or started will be addressed by me with your child the following day. They have PLENTY of time each day to complete them. Well...here we go again! However this time I feel a lot better about our plan and how hard my team will be working. Last time we went on distance learning I had only been with this group of students for 7 days. Since then we have bonded well and have what it takes to work hard and go the distance!
We will continue to use SEE SAW app on their Ipad along with ZOOM. Our day will look much like our regular school day. Students need to be ready for learning by 7:45 a.m. Please remind them to plug in their Ipad the night before and to have their 'white binder' along with pencils ready. You will notice how everything they need is included in the white binder. I'm very big on being organized and those traits are being passed on to your child this year. Before the students left we had a TEAM meeting along with a cheer. The students repeated what I exclaimed, "I...I BELIEVE...I BELIEVE THAT... I BELIEVE THAT WE ARE STRONG!" Along with "PV STRONG!" We shouted that over and over as we departed the room. I have great confidence that they will remember our cry throughout the distance learning time. Remember if you have any technology issues there is a link that you can use to have some support. *** BEFORE THURSDAY MORNING have your child go on SEE SAW and navigate to the schedule. There is also a printed schedule in the front of their white binder. Take a deep breath and let the learning begin! I...I believe... I believe that ....I believe that we are strong! As we continue along each day I seem to be smiling more and more. This group of students has really embraced the TEAM concept and it's truly a joy to be working with them. Believe me, if it were the opposite you would be hearing about it.
We are continuing to get new sets of flashcards every two weeks. Please make sure your child is working on them and once they master a set you can put it aside. We have increased the amount of Math homework to two pages daily. The good news is that your child has an opportunity to start and nearly finish it in school. Please continue to check it over each night and return it in their folder and backpack. We have discussed AREA in math quite a bit. If you have a tape measure available have your child show you how to measure the area of their bedroom. They may need a calculator to answer it but they should be telling you that Length X Width is the formula for finding AREA. Cooler weather is coming back so please remember to send with warm coats for recess. Thank you again for your partnership as we journey further into this championship season. |
