Today is the first day of the new trimester. As a class we talked about the importance of starting off strong in a new portion of our year. It is during the middle portion of the year that in the past I have noticed a little bit of a let down in performance. It’s during this time that we need to continue to read each night along with work on our multiplication facts.
In Math we are continuing with Unit 5 with the focus on story problems. Remember that you can go on to the website thinkcentral.com if you want to see the lesson for the day or preview the next day’s lesson. Many students are doing this and they are experiencing success because of that strategy. Lesson #10 Spelling list and Skills

This Tuesday marks the end of the first trimester. In looking at my plan book we are right on pace of where I am suppose to have this group at this time of the year. Report cards will be sent home in the near future. I am very proud of this group and the effort they have made during this first portion of the school year.
At home I would like you to take at least 3 evenings a week and ask your child the questions from the 30 questions for conferencing sheet that I gave you several weeks ago. If you can not find it please ask for a new one. A reminder there is no school this week on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. During this weekend I'll be reflecting on how thankful I am for this group of students. We have really bonded together and it's been wonderful to see the progress they are making. We are 1/3 done with this school year. The middle portion to me is probably the most important time for your child. Next week in my blog I'll talk more about that. *Students present their speeches this week. * No Spelling List or Skills test this week. Vincent Lombardi “It is time for us all to stand and cheer for the doer, the achiever - the one who recognizes the challenge and does something about it.” AFTER SCHOOL PLANS PLEASE SEND NOTES to school with your child anytime a change in transportation is necessary. It eliminates confusion for your child and insures that your child is brought to, and arrives at, the proper destination! This also applies when you plan to pick your child up. Without a note s/he will be sent to his/her regular after school destination. Thank you so much for your help and cooperation. Your child should be practicing their “How To Speech.” All of the information was given to you at conferences. It's very easy to put off an assignment when the due date is nearly three weeks away. One mother told me that each evening they are working on each part of the speech.
Our current unit in Math has the students rounding numbers to the nearest hundred and to the nearest ten. Ask your child what is the rule when rounding numbers. You can follow along on the thinkcentral website to see how it was taught. Last week nearly all of the students read the story several times at home on the thinkcentral website. The results were outstanding when we tested on Friday. What a wonderful resource that has turned out to be. This week we are focusing on past and present tense verbs. Ask your child what a verb is and what the terms past and present tense mean. It might be a good idea to locate your child's winter clothing items. It sounds like we might be having some snow heading our way soon. SPELLING/READING SKILLS: Lesson 7
