Where did the last 170 days go? I'll be very honest with you that I really dread Thursday of this week because of the strong bond formed between your child and myself. As a veteran of teaching now for 32 years, this group stands out in many ways.
Many of the teachers I work with tell me that I say that each year. Maybe it's because I state what's expected early in the year and the students decide that it's the best choice and we have a good year. This group is one I'll always remember. In the past two weeks we have started a project that actually started with a Math problem of a Maine Marathon runner with Parkinson's disease. It has grown from there and the Sauk Rapids Herald newspaper is coming out next week to do a story on our class. I'm guessing other papers from across the United States may pick up the story too which would be a great tribute to our class. If you would not want your child's photo to appear in the newspaper let me know. At the beginning of the year you signed a form that either gave consent or said you did not want your child's image used in the media. I'll check those over again but wanted to give you a heads up on what is happening. iPads were turned in last week and you will received a copy of the check in process. Students going to summer school will use them but not take them home this summer. Remember if you signed up for summer school we begin on June 12 by 7:30 a.m. Thank you for being a great partner in your child's education. I have called them Champions in my blog all year and they are very much a Champion in so many ways. Finally, thank you to the students for giving me your best each day. It was a banner year and one I'll cherish forever. Respectfully yours, Mr. Olson.....the teacher of Champions!

All of our major testing is done. The students all made some significant gains during the year. I believe it was because of the high standards you hold them to at home in doing their homework and reading to self at night. I will be sending home results very soon.
The next few years are very important in their educational development and I feel that good study habits were established this year. Just a reminder there is no school next Monday. This week the students will finish up with some testing. This time in Math. The students made graphs of their results. I was very impressed with the results. Be sure to look over their goal sheets and their graphs.
Please remind your child to stay on the PATH for the remainder of the school year. It's always tough this time of year with spring fever and I don't want to end this year being a crabby teacher. We've had a good year together and I'd like to end it like that. Field trip is on Thursday. The bus will leave the school at 7:30 a.m. If your child arrives after that time they will have to spend the day in the office doing school work. Please leave home and arrive to school on time for this day. In the past I have seen many kids left behind because of parents leaving home late. When we return between 3:15 pm and 3:30 pm you can meet your child in front of the school by the flag pole. Some of the kids will be going to Kidstop and others walking. Remember to send the cold lunch with your child. If you indicated on the form they are having the school pack them one you are all set. Field Day is Friday from 8:40-10:10 a.m. behind Pleasantview.. Come and cheer on your child if you are able. If you haven't voted already I really hope you get out on May 23rd .Here is more information about the vote. www.isd47.org/building-referendum-2017 Registered voters CAN still vote in the District Office between now and May 23, 2017. The office is open from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. daily. If you have not completed and paid for your child's field trip please do so today. I need to get that information into the office and also we need to purchase the tickets for the Science Museum. I had several permission slips returned with no payment and also have not paid on the internet.
Chaperones will be contacted today. You must have a current background check completed or you will not be able to attend. There is information on the school website on this. I am only able to take 5 chaperones with me so I had a drawing. Logan, Breyden, Ryan, Chaz, and Keira O's parent were selected. This Friday is a Late Start Focus Friday. Also that evening is the PV Carnival. If you would like to donate for the 3rd grade basket information was sent home several weeks ago on that. Our class will walk at 12:50-1:20 pm. |
