This Thursday marks the end of the first trimester. In looking at my plan book we are right on pace of where I am suppose to have this group at this time of the year. Report cards will be sent home in the near future. I am very proud of this group and the effort they have made during this first portion of the school year.
Something else I've mentioned to the students that 1/3 of their school term is finished on Thursday. A question I have asked them is, "Does your school work reflect a person that has been in school for 58 days?" Please continue to encourage your child to read daily. Also to be really working on their multiplication flashcards. Just a reminder that there is no school on Friday, December 4th due to an In-Service Training for the teachers.

This week there will not be a spelling list or a Reading skill. Instead we are going to be presenting our "Demonstration Speeches." The students had nearly 7 weeks to prepare for this assignment. From the feedback I'm getting from a few students very little was done preparing for this. On the other hand numerous other students reflected with me how they prepared for this assignment well ahead of time.
We will not have school on Thursday and Friday of this week. During those days I'll reflect on how thankful I am for a wonderful classroom of students and for the supportive parents that I am working with this year. Enjoy your time with your child during Thanksgiving vacation. Just a reminder that if your child is suppose to do something different after school I need a note from you stating where they are to go. Last week we had a situation where a student told me at 2:00 p.m. where he was going. I didn't have any note and was very fortunate to reach his mother, and she said a note had been forgotten. I am responsible for your child and I take that responsibility very seriously. If I don't have a note then they will be going to the place you designated on the forms at the beginning of the school year. If you realize that a note was forgotten please call me at 320-258-1203 anytime.
In just one week (Nov.23,24,25) and some this Friday, your child will be presenting their "How To Speech" to the rest of the class. The students have had nearly over one month to prepare for this. Please check your child's agenda to see which day they are presenting their speech. This week it would be a good idea to practice it each night. This week I'd like you to quiz your child with their multiplication flash cards. The ones they do not know should be placed in a separate pile. Those are the ones to work on daily. Before you know it that pile will be gone. Looking ahead to next week the students will not have classes on, Thursday and Friday, November 26th and 27th. Lesson 9 skills and Spelling words this week. Your child should be practicing their “How To Speech.” All of the information was given to you at conferences. It's very easy to put off an assignment when the due date is nearly three weeks away. One mother told me that each evening they are working on each part of the speech.
Our current unit in Math has the students rounding numbers to the nearest hundred and to the nearest ten. Ask your child what is the rule when rounding numbers. You can follow along on the thinkcentral website to see how it was taught. Book orders are due on Nov.12th. The lesson for the week in Reading and Spelling is Lesson 8. It might be a good idea to locate your child's winter clothing items. It sounds like we might be having some snow heading our way soon. Can you believe it's November already? It seems like only yesterday that the students were coming in with their new school supplies and we were starting our year.
We will be honoring family members that have served our country on Friday, November 6th. Some information was sent home regarding this and needs to be returned if you have someone attending. On November 6th we will start school two hours late for our Focus Friday. I've checked with all the students and about 3/4 have selected a topic for their demonstration speeches. If you haven't started to help your child yet I'd recommend that you start it this week. Book orders were sent home today and need to be turned in by the 12th of November. Spelling and Skill list is Lesson 7. |
