NO SPELLING LIST THIS WEEK Thursday Field Trip: Students can bring $2 if they wish to rent roller blades. Roller Skates are free. They can also bring their own from home. If they want to play the arcade games or get snacks they can bring money for that. If your child did not order a lunch from school they should bring one from home on Thursday. They can bring it their own container or I can send white bags home again. Last week I sent home with your child the progress report of their Reading and Math for the year. We had record numbers of students reading and doing Math at or above grade level! I believe the students bought into my TEAM approach and by working together we accomplished many goals. Friday will be my last day in the classroom for the regular school year. 38 years ago a wide eyed farm boy from North Dakota walked into a third grade classroom in ND and began his career. I've been blessed with wonderful students and parents and this year was a banner year. It's similar to a coach going out with a State Championship team. Thank you again for the support you showed me . It was greatly appreciated. I will be teaching summer school through June 30th so that will be a nice transition to retirement. I will be sending home some books and other things from my room with students this week so if you see some items you will know where they came from. Thank you once again! From Mr. Brad "Coach" Olson....the TEACHER OF CHAMPIONS!

We are estimating the time of return to be around 3:30 pm. Please come up to me and let me know you are there and have your child. If your child attends KidStop they will be sent there. Anyone walking or riding bike will be dismissed as well. Speaking of field trips we have an opportunity to have one more this year. I will send home the permission slip on Monday. If you could take care of this right away like the last one I would appreciate it. We were the first class to have all of our slips returned with the fee. Nice job parents! TESTING RESULTS I will be sending home your child's testing results from Reading and Math later this week. I shared their scores at Parent Teacher Conferences in September and in February . Let me say first how proud I am of the progress of the entire class. Everyone improved each trimester and they finished strong. I don't ever recall this many students Reading and doing Math above grade level before. I guess I did save my best for last. CLASS PHOTOS On Wednesday let's get dressed up for a full length class photo. I don't have any details at this time on it other than we will take it on that date. Great job of getting in the field trip money so quickly for the Science Museum. It's hard to believe that this group of students have never went on a field trip since they started school! This year they will get to attend two and both in May. Next week I will share more details about their June 1 trip to the Skating Place and the Lions Park in Sauk Rapids. This week on Tuesday and Wednesday your child will take their final Reading and Math test. These are the same type of tests they took in September and in January. This will give you a good snapshot of their progress for the year. I will once again be sending home the results of the tests. I gave you copies of these at the Parent Teacher Conferences in October and in February. SPELLING LIST: prediction, previous, remarked, reverse, preorder, recycled, reuse, prebake

WEDNESDAY EARLY OUT. School dismisses at 12:15 p.m. on April 26th. I'd like to think it's in honor of my birthday but my principal said it's not. However on that day I am buying pizza for lunch for my team. They will have a choice of 2 slices of Pepperoni, Cheese, or Sausage. We have been studying about the country of Italy and also in Math class dealing with fractions. When you mix the two lessons together obviously you get pizza. I don't have results yet but I was so proud of the way the students took their time on the Math MCA last week. I have a good feeling all of the hard work with homework and listening well during the lessons has paid off. Homework in Math will resume next week. On nights they don't get one they should still be working on their Multiplication flash cards. SPELLING WORDS: useful, reckless, wonderful, truthful, wireless, valuable, sizable, worthless.
We will continue with MCA testing this Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday morning from 8:10 .m. until 9:10 a.m. The test will be the Math test. Please encourage your child to work out and show their work on scratch paper when answering the questions. On Wednesday April 26, is an early release day. Students will be dismissed at 12:15 pm. That day is a special day as it is my birthday. To celebrate with my students I will be hosting a pizza lunch. Students will not need to bring a cold lunch from home on that day or eat the school's hot lunch. As a kid or as an adult I never had a birthday party. This will be my first and I wanted to spend it with my TEAM. Since we are learning about Italy and fractions I thought it was the perfect opportunity to have pizza! On May 18 we will be going to the Science Museum of MN. If you are interested in going with as a chaperone please email this week on or before Wednesday ([email protected]). I can take 5 chaperones. If I get more there will be a drawing and to see who can go. SPELLING WORDS: annoying, appointment, browse, mountain, outside, powerful, sprout, moisture.
