It's so exciting to be entering into October. Now that September is behind us and routines have been established we have really settled into our daily schedule. I'm hoping by now you have established that routine at home as well. Nice job on checking for the yellow Math sheet and making sure it's returned each time one is sent home. I shared with the students the following video and we talked about how working as a TEAM can help every achieve more. www.youtube.com/watch?v=hazitrxzhPk Have a discussion at home on how you can work as a TEAM in order for your family to accomplish goals as well. SPELLING WORDS FOR THE WEEK. TEST ON FRIDAY.
able, afraid, indicate, hooray, Tuesday, explained, became, raise Can you believe the last week of September is upon us? With school only in session for nine months and one of them will be complete at the end of the week can be a scary thought . However, we are right on pace with the lessons that I have wanted to do and so there is no cause for alarm. By now your child should have received their multiplication flashcards of 2's and 5's. It's so important to have your child spend time now working on them. Look for opportunities to show examples around the house of multiples of 2 and 5. Counting out food items etc.. This Wednesday September 28 is the first of several "early release days." If your child has an end of day change of plans please be sure to send a note and tell your child the plan. Picture Day is Thursday, Sept. 29. Watch for more information coming home in a flyer. SPELLING WORDS FOR THE WEEK. TEST ON FRIDAY. product, contact, address, upset, helpful, until, listen, bread
This week we will continue to have the students reading each evening for 20 minutes. Homework pages in Math will continue. On nights when your child doesn't bring home a Math sheet they should practice their multiplication flashcards. About every two weeks they will receive a new set. It's important to keep up and learn them as we go. It can be very overwhelming if they do not practice as I give them out. PV school open house to tour the school is on Saturday from 1:00 pm - 3:00 p.m. If you want to see more of the school come and look around. I really feel like this class has settled in and ready to learn. We've built routines and are working on our stamina . This group of students are very helpful and are taking great pride in our new building. Thank you once again for establishing routines at home as well. The yellow folder has been coming back and forth in the backpack and homework has been turned in on time. HOMECOMING WEEK: Mon- Jersey day Tues- Tye dye Wed- grade level colors K--Red 1--Orange 2--Yellow 3--Green 4--Blue 5--Purple Thurs- PJ day Friday- Spirit day This week your child will be tested in Reading and Math. This will give us a snapshot of where they are in their progress of those subjects. Tests are given three times a year and the results will be shared at Parent Teacher Conferences in October. Conference sign up will once again be on Skyward and you'll receive notice of when you can sign up.
I was really impressed with our first week of class. Routines were learned and some habits are being established. Beginning this week I'd like your child to spend a minimum of 20 minutes a night reading. As they read they should be : Asking themselves questions about the plot of the story. Next, they should be making predictions before going on to the next page. Finally, try to make a connection in the story to something that has happened to themselves, or a connection with another book they have read. HOMEWORK: Read to self at least 20 minutes each night. A yellow Math homework/remembering sheet will be coming home several times this week. Your child will start it in school and may even finish it before the end of the day. I'd like you to look it over and see if there are any errors. If so, have your child correct it and return it to school in the folder they are bringing home daily. Your child will turn it in the following day to me and I'll look it over. Study Spelling words each evening. SPELLING WORDS: BREAKFAST, LUNCH, DINNER, COMPUTER, READING, SPELLING, MATH, RECESS, ART, MUSIC On Thursday your child will be bringing home some information regarding a Fund Raiser . This something we tried last year and it was very successful.
Beginning next week we have a short spelling list for your child to study. The test will be given on Friday of each week. I will post the Spelling list in the blog and your child will also bring the list home on a paper. It was so much fun meeting my new TEAM the other night and also the parents. I was very impressed with how polite everyone was and also the enthusiasm for the coming year.
We are all very fortunate to be blessed with a brand new building to further the education of your child. My hope is that you will remind your child of your expectations of them daily and that they come prepared to work hard and give a champion like effort. I had several students tell me their favorite subject was either Math or Reading. That is not what I'm use to hearing as many will tell me that Lunch, Recess or Physical Education is their favorite. I can tell that this group will be up for the challenges that they will face. My plan is to teach third grade material in the morning. For those that need some remediation or more challenging material I will teach small group lessons at your child's Reading and Math level in the afternoon. This way everyone is getting their needs met. Please check this website out each Monday as it will give you more information about our week. Water bottles: We have a water fountain in the classroom and one in the hallway so I'm not sure they need to bring a bottle. If there is every a change of plans for your child getting home please send a note with them and remind them to give it to me. You can also call the office with the change but please do so prior to 1:30 pm. DON'T email me the changes as I am not sitting at my desk except for a few minutes in the morning and again at noon. There could also be a substitute who would not have access to my email. Finally, let's commit together to making this school year the best your child has ever experienced. Above our door a sign reads, "THROUGH THESE DOORS WALK CHAMPIONS." After meeting my TEAM the other night I believe they will never forget this year and it will be their favorite year so far. |
