It's so amazing to think that one month of school has finished as of Monday. Some very good routines have been established here at school and I'm impressed with what we've been able to accomplish.
Our rotation has been working well and this week we'll add one more class to it. It's called WIN. It stands for What I Need. For thirty minutes each afternoon the students will attend a class for reading at exactly their reading level. Strategies for getting stronger will be taught. Please continue with working on the flashcards. Every two weeks they will receive another set. We've had some issue of excessive talking at times during the day. Please remind your child of your expectations when they are in school. Parent/Teacher Conferences are in a couple of weeks. October 14,15,16. Thank you for signing up. "Stronger Than Yesterday"

We are right on pace where I think we should be at this point and I'm very impressed with your partnership in making sure their homework is finished each evening and returned the following day. There are many days when we have time in school to start the assignment and some may even finish it prior to bringing it home.
I'd still like you to look it over and if you see any errors, have them correct them. By finishing their Math in school this will allow more time at home for work on their nightly reading. If they aren't reading for at least 20 minutes they need to start. Please make sure they are filling out the reading minutes sheet each week in their agenda. As a class we decided to record their minutes in the agenda instead of using the yellow paper . We are continuing with our multiplication unit. So far we have worked on the facts of 5 and this week we will start with the 2s. PV Road race is scheduled for Saturday. Picture Day is Tuesday. Week #3 already! We have started our full rotation where your child sees me for Math, Ms. Young for SSW, and Mrs. Martin for Reading.
If you have not signed up for a PT Conference yet please do so. Also if your child did not bring headphones to school for their iPad they will need them this week. You also should have gotten a white piece of paper from me describing the Math homework policy. Remember, on nights when there is none, your child should practice their flashcards. I love the honesty of my class. I have asked if everyone has been working on their flashcards and a few said they have not even looked at them yet. The rest of the class has been faithfully working on them which will really help them do their work. Day #3 is our Media day where your child can check out books from the Media Center. Right now that is on Fridays. Some of you may have gotten a phone call from me already. Please make sure you share what was discussed with your child. Wow! What a week we just finished. I am so excited about the team I'm working with. We have had so many leaders emerge and all of the classmates are so kind and respectful of one another. By all of the students being on the PATH during the lessons this will result in more learning time. Please share with your child your expectations of them again and give them some praise for doing the right things. Mrs. Martin is your child's Reading teacher. Ms. Young is teaching their Social Studies/Science and Writing. With my homeroom being so wonderful I regret that I only see them for about 1/3 of the day. Starting this week your child will be bringing home their Math paper. It will be pink. It will be started in class and if it's not done they will have to finish it at home. I predict it will already be finished. If you're interested in what we're learning look it over. If you see a problem that is wrong have your child rework it. The paper MUST be put back in the folder so we can discuss it in class the following day. The Math sheet will be corrected in class with the letters, CIC "Corrected In Class" at the top of it. Our first unit of study is multiplication. To help with this concept I'm sending home flashcards that can stay at home. Please practice with these often. We will start with the 5's. In a week or so another set will come home. The 2's will be the next group we learn. The children who delay trying to learn these will find now they have twice as many to learn. Soon it will feel like trying to push a very large snowball. They will be given time in school to work on them but also helps if it's repeated at home. Thank you once again for your support.
