joking, loved, gripped, tasted GRAMMAR LESSON 21 The skill for this week possessive nouns and possessive pronouns. Possessive nouns and pronouns show ownership of something. Singular noun Cody's pencil is broken. Plural noun, The boys' bathroom smells really bad. Another example sentences is, The bag is his. Work with your child to help him or her understand how some sentences can ownership. Our current unit in Math involves fractions. There is so much information in this unit and I've shared with the students that they must really stay focused and do the homework in order to understand how they work. A great connection on a person that knows his fractions very well is my brother the pipe fitter. He travels all around the country working in factories measuring areas for pipes . His measurements involve a lot of working with fractions of inches which must be correct in order for the pipes to fit. I shared that with my students today and also told them that his hourly wage at his current job is $56.40 an hour. He also gets $50 a day to be used for his housing. I've shared many times with the class how being strong in Math can lead to some pretty outstanding careers. It would be a good idea to have your child review each night this month their homework with you. Thank you again for your help. MCA tests are just around the corner. Your child is bringing home a green MCA practice sheet each evening. Please look it over as we discussed at Parent Teacher Conferences. There is no school on Friday.

SPELLING LIST #19
It was so much fun seeing you all last week and sharing the progress of your child. Together we are a part of winning team that have the common goal of helping your child succeed. After discussing your child I am even more convinced that together we will make a difference in their lives. We've got the teamwork to make the dream work! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hazitrxzhPk Lessons from Geese 'Individual empowerment results from quality honking' Lessons from Geese provides a perfect example of the importance of team work and how it can have a profound and powerful effect on any form of personal or business endeavor . When we use these five principles in our personal and business life it will help us to foster and encourage a level of passion and energy in ourselves, as well as those who are our friends, associates or team members. It is essential to remember that teamwork happens inside and outside of business life when it is continually nurtured and encouraged. Lesson 1 - The Importance of Achieving Goals As each goose flaps its wings it creates an UPLIFT for the birds that follow. By flying in a 'V' formation the whole flock adds 71 percent extra to the flying range. Outcome When we have a sense of community and focus, we create trust and can help each other to achieve our goals. Lesson 2 - The Importance of Team Work When a goose falls out of formation it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of flying alone. It quickly moves back to take advantage of the lifting power of the birds in front. Outcome If we had as much sense as geese we would stay in formation with those headed where we want to go. We are willing to accept their help and give our help to others. Lesson 3 - The Importance of Sharing When a goose tires of flying up front it drops back into formation and another goose flies to the point position. Outcome It pays to take turns doing the hard tasks. We should respect and protect each other's unique arrangement of skills, capabilities, talents and resources. Lesson 4 - The Importance of Empathy and Understanding When a goose gets sick, two geese drop out of formation and follow it down to the ground to help and protect it. Outcome If we have as much sense as geese we will stand by each other in difficult times, as well as when we are strong. Lesson 5 - The Importance of Encouragement Geese flying in formation 'HONK' to encourage those up front to keep up with their speed. Outcome We need to make sure our honking is encouraging. In groups and teams where there is encouragement, production is much greater. Just a reminder this week that if you need to make a change with your child's after school plan a note must be sent with them or call the office. I will not be in school this week so I will not be checking my email. Remind your child what your expectations are for them when they have a sub in the classroom. I believe we have less than ten days left in this trimester! Where has the time gone? We are entering into a extremely important time of the year where the concepts in Math will be slightly more difficult than they were earlier in the year. We will also be working on items more often that are found on the all important MCA Test which will be taken by all of the third graders in the state. Our test dates will be around April 13th. Please confirm that your child has done their Math homework and that it's put back in their agenda each evening. The agenda should always have something written in it daily and if your child isn't doing it, then ask them why. They have nearly 20 minutes to do it each morning. Just a reminder that Parent/Teacher Conferences are being held this week Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Be sure to arrive at your scheduled time as I am booked solid on those days and when the 20 minutes time slot is up I will have to move on to the next parent waiting. We'll go over their recent MAPS test scores in Reading and Math. I'll also give you some suggestions on preparing for the MCA test in April. On Thursday your child can bring a beverage and a snack for themselves. If they would like to give our Valentines they can bring those on Thursday. I sent home a class list last week. Please continue with having your child practice their flashcards. It's fun to see those that have memorized the facts and you can see the confidence in them as a result. |
