BRING A SACK LUNCH ON FRIDAY. BRING ROLLER BLADES for field trip.
There is no spelling list or a grammar skill for this week. The week will be spent reviewing concepts taught throughout the entire year instead. I was really happy to get the official "team" results of our MAPS testing for the year. This class really excelled . I still remember telling this group last September that after our first round of scores that they had the potential as a class to really improve if they worked hard. They listened to my advice and the results are very exciting. I am sending home their results today along with an article about a former team that I coached. This class reminded me of a team that I coached back in 1996. They had the potential to be a great team but needed a lot of guidances and direction to stay focused for the entire season. My students have bought into a system where if you listen and work hard, the results will be favorable providing you put forth some effort. We also talked a lot this year on "Staying on the Path." PATH means, P= Personal Best, A=Accountable, T=Teamwork, H=Honest . My hopes is that these students will remember what they learned not only from the textbooks but also from a conversation that we had this year about the choices they make. Class Avg. READING Class Avg. MATH SEPT. 186 DEC.198 MAY 203.7 SEPT.190 DEC.198 MAY 211.3 Typical growth is about 6 points for the year. This group is not your typical class as they improved 17.7 in Reading and 21.3 in Math! Thank you for your partnership in helping your child each evening on their reading and their math. My advice for the future is to keep an active role in your child's education. They have established a habit of doing homework now and the homework time will only get longer as they grow older. The future looks bright for these students and it was my pleasure to be on the Path with them for one year. Best of luck in the future and keep being an active parent. That young person will one day be taking care of you.
