I thought it would be fitting to end our school year with my welcome letter from last August. Read it to your child and see if they remember it and also ask them if this sounded like their school year.
It's truly been an honor serving as your child's teacher this year. Years from now we will look back on March- June 2020 school year with many stories and memories. I hope one of those memories will be that I was there for your child and tried to make the learning meaningful and also in a fun way. Thank you again and please stop by my classroom next year and say hi. Welcome to Mr. Brad Olson’s Classroom! I am very excited to meet you and start the school year. Third grade is very different than second grade. In third grade you will be expected at times to do some homework. You will also be expected to learn your multiplication facts of 2-9. We’ll start off the year on those facts slowly, but then build up speed and stamina as the year progresses. Now if this sounds like a coach talking to an athlete it might be because I was a high school athletic coach for 26 years. During that time my teams won numerous championship titles. The reason why my team was so successful was they worked harder and longer than the other teams. We all worked to achieve the goals we had set for ourselves. When you enter Pleasantview Elementary each day I want you to come with a positive attitude and a goal in mind. That goal might be that you want to become a better reader or better at doing a certain type of Math problem. I want you to feel that you became stronger than the day before. The harder you work, the better you will become. Our classroom will be like a Brain Fitness Center. We will have expectations in our room. The expectations are for you to be responsible for your actions. If you stay on the PATH you will have a great year. If you decide not to follow the expectations then it makes it difficult for those around you to learn. Now for a little bit about me. I came to Sauk Rapids in 1994 after spending nine years teaching in southern MN and also in North Dakota. I am a graduate of the University of North Dakota with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education. I also received my Masters in Education from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. Traveling is a passion of mine. I have been to nearly all 50 states and to many foreign countries. China, Austria and Hawaii are some of my favorite places that I have visited. You are the newest member of my team and together if we both commit to work hard we’ll see some outstanding results by the end of May. Come ready to learn and with a good attitude. See you soon! Mr.”Coach” Brad Olson…..The Teacher of Champions
