Wow! That's Mom upside down. Well here we are with day #2 of Distance Learning. Since I have heard almost nothing today from families I'm assuming things are better today than yesterday. Thank you for your patience yesterday. It was just as frustrating for me as I had planned the lesson, uploaded everything and then to see within minutes that it wasn't working was a sad feeling. I heard it made national news that the schoology site went down numerous times. They are working on it so let's hope everything will work out.
I'm able to see what time of the day your child is working on their assignments and also how many minutes they are on line. I have said that whatever schedule is best for you to use that time. ASSIGNMENTS ON MATH During the school year prior to the virus the students and I would work problems together in class. At the end of the lesson if the student wasn't understanding it we would meet for some extra help. My advice for us now is to rewatch the lesson, pause it and work the problems. I've also included some videos from others who may teach it a different way. Also during the year a homework sheet was sent home with the parents looking it over to see how they were doing on it. There are no homework sheets now but once in a while they will have a workbook page to complete. They do not need to send me a copy of their finished assignment. I am doing assessments on their progress another way. When they go on to the Freckle app it shows me exactly who is understanding the assignments and also who needs some extra help. That is what I will use along with some quizzes and unit tests which are coming up to check the progress. We are all still learning how to use these tools and how to speak to children on a lesson that are not in the room. Remember they can pause the lesson, write down the example and then resume the lesson. They can also rewatch it which when I hear something more than once I seem to remember it better. Finally thank you to those who sent me some nice emails yesterday thanking the TEAM I work with for what we are doing. Those kind words are exactly what I will remember about Day 1 of Distance Learning and not that Schoology crashed. You're simply the best! From Mr. Olson....The Teacher of Champions!
