Three times a year students are tested on their progress in Reading and Math. Those tests will be given this week. It's nice to settle back in with the students again. I'm sure you're happy to have them back on a schedule again too. Speaking of schedules let's make sure you're having your child sit down with a book and their flashcards in evening. If they have lost their flashcards just have them tell me which set they want. No Spelling List this week
Welcome back to school....well sort of. I was so excited to see the students on Tuesday morning and extremely disappointed when I heard that it would be an E-Learning Day. I received a good report from the sub while I was gone prior to the Christmas break. I am returning from vacation well rested and excited to pick up where we left off. The second half of the school year is fast approaching. I really like the work ethic of this group and know that they will keep moving forward with new challenges as we learn new material. Next week we will take our second progress tests in Reading and Math. We tested in September and those results were shared at Parent Teacher Conferences. I'm very excited to see how much growth each of my students have achieved since September. I will share those results with you as I get them and it will also be a topic of conversation at our Parent Teacher Conferences in Feb. 9th or 15th. No Spelling list this week.
We may be having a school store that is selling Christmas items this week. At the time of this posting it hasn't been decided yet. Your child may be telling you they would like to bring some money for it to buy you a gift. Usually the items are about a dollar. During Christmas break please have your child take time to read daily. Try to get in a couple of sessions of 30 minutes or more. Also if they could go through their flashcards during break that would be wonderful. I look forward to seeing them again on January 3 when we will resume school. Have a blessed Christmas break. The end of our first trimester is on December 1, 2022. Each student will have a Standards Based Progress Report available that will share with families an update of their child's academic achievement. Over the last several years we have moved away from traditional grading and report cards to a standards focused approach. The grade that is shared is an indicator of how the student is doing on district defined standards that students should know and be able to do by the end of a specific grade level in a specific subject area. On December 7, 2022, the school will notify you when these will be available for you to view with directions on how to access them in Skyward. If your family does not have access or would prefer to have a copy printed, the school will send you more information on how to get a paper copy. With the school year being 1/3 done on Friday I'd like the students to increase their nightly reading from 20 minutes to 25 minutes per night. Also by now my goal is that they have mastered the multiplication facts of 2-5. No classes on Friday December 2. NO SPELLING LIST THIS WEEK
At this time of the year it's always good to reflect on how are lives are blessed and give thanks for what we have. As I walk into our new elementary school I'm constantly reminded of how fortunate I am to work in such a beautiful setting. I'm also fortunate to have such a wonderful class of students who care about one another and give me their best each day. On the first day of school I told the students that they were a special group and they are living up to that statement. I am not in school this week so please remind your child of your expectations of them while they have a sub in my place. Have a great Thanksgiving break! Spelling Words: circus, summer, serve, occur, return, thirteen, dangerous, caterpillar.
This week we will start the book bags again. If there is a short week I won't be sending home the books. Please pack them up and return by Thursday. Next week we only have two days of classes so there will not be a Spelling list. I will also be gone and have a sub. Please send notes of any changes that your child may be doing if needed. Also please remind your child of your expectations when I am gone. SPELLING WORDS: alarm, charge, starving, forgot, import, ornament, forward, carnivore.
Lots of changes in the weather are coming and I reminded the class to be prepared with their winter clothing. If I were you I would label the inside of your child's snow pants, coat and gloves with their name. Items are costly and you would not believe the lost and found department each year at our school with these items. New flashcards are coming out this week. It's the set of 6. So far your child has been given their 2,3,4,5's. Please quiz them often on their facts. We've been talking about fables and how each one ends with a moral (a lesson learned). At the dinner table share with your child a story from your youth and a lesson you learned from it. |
